Riverhead Building Supply, a family-owned lumber and building materials dealer operating 21 full-service lumberyards and two Lakeville Kitchen & Bath Showrooms across New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, has acquired certain assets of Contractor Express, Oceanside, N.Y.
Founded in Oceanside in 1981 by the Lucas family, Contractor Express is a full-service lumber and building material dealer with a solid reputation and a respected position in its market. This acquisition will significantly strengthen Riverhead Building Supply’s ability to serve customers and communities throughout the South Shore of Nassau County, increasing its presence and capabilities in a market where Contractor Express has built a strong reputation.
Bob Lucas, president of Contractor Express, said the move is a natural fit for both customers and employees: “Riverhead has built a reputation on quality, service, and a large, accessible inventory. They understand the importance of good people taking good care of customers. These values have been central to the success of Contractor Express for the past 45 years. There is a strong alignment between our companies.”
John Callahan, president of Riverhead Building Supply, agreed: “Contractor Express is a strong company with a loyal customer base that values its expertise, dependable service, and commitment to getting it right the first time. We are excited to welcome Contractor Express to our team and build on the strong legacy of the Lucas family. This acquisition strengthens our ability to serve this market, supported by the talented Contractor Express employees.”
Upon completion of the transition, Bob Lucas intends to retire from his 48-year career in the lumber and building materials business.
The deal is expected to close in September, upon completion of due diligence.
For over 75 years, Riverhead Building Supply has been the supplier of choice for quality-conscious builders, contractors, architects and homeowners in the Long Island, eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Greater Boston areas. The chain is based in Calverton, N.Y.
