Madison Wood Preservers, a supplier of treated lumber and fence posts to independent retailers from Maine to Ohio to North Carolina, has broken ground on a major expansion of its treating facility in Madison, Va.
The project develops an approximately 10-acre lot connected to its existing site, bringing the company’s total property to roughly 100 acres, and adds more than 8 million bd. ft. of indoor lumber storage along with a new covered receiving area. Construction is expected to take approximately one year.
The expansion includes logistical improvements to truck traffic and material flow designed to enhance safety for carriers, employees and visitors. The covered receiving area will allow multiple trucks to be unloaded simultaneously regardless of weather, while the redesigned layout reduces forklift handling and the associated risk of product damage.
For Madison Wood’s customers, the added capacity strengthens the company’s ability to store lumber efficiently while maintaining the dry-storage standards it has long upheld. Keeping southern yellow pine dry before treatment supports more effective treating and reduces the potential for mold.
“We chose to reinvest in our existing site, where we can maintain the quality standards our customers expect while improving the speed and consistency of our service,” said Kari Gaviria, president of Madison Wood Preservers. “This expansion positions us to grow alongside the retailers who rely on us.”

Alongside the physical expansion, the company continues to invest in technology across its production and customer service operations, including the use of data and AI tools to improve efficiency.
Founded in 1959, Madison Wood Preservers is a family-owned wood preserving company based in Madison, and is now led by its fourth-generation CEO. The company supplies retailers with treated southern yellow pine lumber and fence posts.
