Highland Lumber & Mill, Anaheim, Ca., is marking its 35th anniversary with a huge expansion, which includes the addition of a new lumber trading division and new products and capabilities for its recently opened plywood division.

Based in Coeur d'Alene, Id., the new lumber trading office had formerly operated as Western Timber Products. The move brings over sales manager Marty Weimer, who had been with Western Timber since 1991, and senior sales executive Tom Lund, with the company since 2002.

Western Timber was acquired by OrePac Building Products in 2024, but was not part of the future for Specialty Building Products, which acquired OrePac late last year.

The plywood division occupies a 50,000-sq. ft. warehouse in nearby Fullerton, Ca., stocking plywood, premium panel products, and hardwoods. Highland expanded into panels in recent years, for a time operating a small facility in Georgia, before adding warehouse space next door to its Anaheim mill. However, it quickly ran out of room.

The facility has also begun producing high-pressure laminates. Current machinery includes two high-pressure presses, a plywood panel saw, and a CNC routing table, with additional equipment in the works.

A key component of the new site is expansive inventory and sales partnerships with two major suppliers—Midwest Hardwood Co. and Britannica Woods LLC, which gives Highland a source for imported plywood.

Highland will showcase the new Fullerton facility for lumber dealers, distributors, cabinet shops, millwork houses, and furniture makers at an open house on May 7-8, which will feature food, drinks, giveaways and special discounts on-site.

According to Steve Bender, strategic business director, the moves are all part of a growing, revitalized Highland Lumber & Mill, which over the last year has been refreshing its branding, technology and processes.
