Costello’s Ace Hardware, Deer Park, N.Y., is continuing its multi-state growth with a renewed focus on new store development, highlighted by a new flagship location in Cedar Knolls, N.J., and a new store currently under construction in Abington, Pa.

As the company works toward its 2030 plan of 100 locations, Costello’s is evolving how it grows. While the business has expanded significantly through acquisitions in recent years, including the addition of the 11-store Rommell’s Ace Home Center group in 2025, the current environment has created new opportunities for ground-up and redevelopment projects in high-quality markets.

“We’ve always grown through a mix of acquisitions and new stores,” said Mike Costello, CEO of Costello’s Ace Hardware. “We are seeing strong opportunities to open new locations from the ground up due to market growth and the increasing availability of suitable retail sites. Our vision remains steady, to be the acquisition partner of choice for great businesses looking for a succession plan and to expand into new communities that really need a local hardware store.”

Leading this next phase is a flagship store in Cedar Knolls. At more than 23,000 sq. ft., the location will be one of the largest and most advanced stores in the company’s portfolio. Designed around Ace Hardware’s ELEVATE3 (E3) store model, the Cedar Knolls location will deliver a highly experiential, brand-driven environment with expanded assortments and deeper product lines across key categories, including the launch of “The Knolls Thoughtful Finds”, a curated assortment of gifts, home accents, and everyday essentials designed to inspire discovery, celebrate life’s moments, and offer customers a destination for thoughtful, convenient gifting within their neighborhood hardware store.

Another centerpiece of the Cedar Knolls store will be the Power Department showcasing the latest in battery-powered and gas outdoor and portable power equipment featuring immersive presentations for EGO, STIHL, Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Craftsman. This department is designed to provide customers with hands-on access, expert guidance, and a full range of solutions for lawn care, jobsite needs, and outdoor power.

In addition, Cedar Knolls will feature a Backyard and BBQ destination offering Weber, Traeger, Big Green Egg, Blackstone, Ooni, Recteq, and Gozney, along with a wide assortment of BBQ sauces, spices, and accessories. The store will also showcase leading brands including Benjamin Moore, Jonathan Green, Scotts, YETI, Stanley, Owala, and Solo Stove, with significantly expanded product depth across paint, hardware, outdoor living, seasonal, and an expansive array of screws and fasteners.

The Cedar Knolls store is expected to open in mid-May 2026.

Costello’s is also set to open a new store in Abington, in the Roslyn Village Commons shopping center. The approximately 12,000-sq. ft. store is already under construction and is expected to open in late May.

Like Cedar Knolls, the Abington location will be built around Ace’s ELEVATE3 format, delivering a modern, experiential store environment with strong brand representation and curated assortments across key categories.

Both locations are designed with a strong emphasis on supporting professional tradespeople and local businesses, reflecting Costello’s growing focus on expanding its pro business. In addition to serving DIY customers, these stores are built to deliver the product depth, service capabilities, and reliability that contractors and commercial customers depend on. Each store will offer dedicated commercial account management, competitive B2B purchasing programs, product sourcing, and jobsite delivery.

The stores will offer a full complement of services including key cutting and programming, knife sharpening, paint color matching, window screen repair, assembly and delivery, including Costello’s famous and free white glove barbecue assembly and delivery.

Costello’s expansion continues beyond these two locations. The company also has plans for additional stores in East Goshen, Pa., and Henrico, Va.

Together, these projects reflect an intentional growth strategy, added Costello. “We are eager to expose a bunch of new communities to our brand promise of service, convenience, and quality, powered by the heart of a proud family business.”

Costello’s Ace Hardware currently operates 63 locations across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic and remains focused on disciplined growth, operational excellence, and deep community engagement as it works toward its 2030 vision.
