Damariscotta Hardware, Damariscotta, Me., and Randolph Hardware, Randolph, Me., are inviting customers to support those affected by the recent fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, Me., through a Register Round-Up fundraiser now underway at both stores.

The fundraiser gives customers the opportunity to round up their purchases at checkout, with donations being matched by store co-owner Rob Gardiner and directed through the Maine Strong Memorial Foundation to support relief efforts connected to the tragedy.

On May 15, a fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber resulted in multiple injuries, including several firefighters and EMTs, and the line-of-duty death of a firefighter. The incident has deeply affected the Searsmont community, the first responder community, and Maine’s independent lumber and building materials industry.

“When something like this happens in Maine, it affects all of us, especially those of us in the independent hardware and lumber community,” said Rob Gardiner, co-owner of Damariscotta Hardware and Randolph Hardware. “Robbins Lumber has served this state for generations, and our hearts are with the first responders, the Robbins family, their employees, and everyone impacted. This round-up gives our customers a simple way to help, and we’re proud to match those donations through the Maine Strong Memorial Foundation.”

The Register Round-Up fundraiser is currently available at both locations. Customers who wish to participate can simply ask to round up their purchase at checkout. The campaign will run through June 6.

Gardiner said the fundraiser reflects the strong sense of connection among Maine’s locally owned businesses and the customers they serve.

“Independent hardware stores and lumberyards are more than businesses. They are part of the fabric of their communities,” Gardiner said. “We know many of our customers have been looking for a way to help, and we are grateful for every contribution, large or small.”

Damariscotta Hardware and Randolph Hardware are locally owned Do it Best Group member-owned stores serving homeowners, contractors, and communities in Midcoast and central Maine.
