Andy & Marna Boerman have agreed to sell Ithaca Agway Ace Hardware with two locations in Ithaca, N.Y., to the Aubuchon Co., the oldest and largest family-owned group of hardware stores in America. The stores will continue to operate as Ithaca Agway Ace Hardware. Andy and his daughter Maddie will stay on with the business.
Following a Dec. 18 settlement, the Aubuchon Co. will operate 133 stores across 11 states.
“Andy and Marna have spent the past 25 years shaping Agway Ace Hardware into a fixture of the Ithaca community,” said William E. Aubuchon, IV, president & CEO. “Their commitment to service, their agricultural roots, and the way they’ve grown the business while staying true to its heritage is exactly the kind of legacy we are proud to carry forward. We’re excited to welcome the Boerman family and their entire team into ours.”
“It has been one of the great privileges of my life to lead these stores and serve the customers who have supported us for so many years,” said Andy. “What began as a farm supply store has grown into something much bigger, thanks to our incredible team and the loyalty of our community. Knowing that everyone on our team will remain in place, including my daughter Maddie and me, made this transition feel right.”
“To our customers and our team, thank you,” said Andy. “You all continue to make these stores what they are. Serving our community with such dedicated people has been an honor, and I’m grateful for every relationship built over the years.”
“We chose Aubuchon because they share our belief that strong stores are built through strong relationships with employees and customers,” Andy continued. “They understand the importance of community, and they operate with the same family values that have guided us from the start. This next chapter gives us the support, stability, and long-term home our stores deserve.”
“We work hard, care for each other, and have fun,” said Will. “We’re proud to carry Andy and Marna’s legacy forward, and we’re committed to helping the Ithaca Agway Ace Hardware team thrive for generations to come.”
Ithaca Agway Ace Hardware traces its roots to 1920, when the Grange League Federation (GLF) was founded to serve the agricultural community of Ithaca, NY. For generations, the store played a central role in supporting local farmers and rural homeowners. In 2000, after Agway divested its retail locations, Andy Boerman took ownership and began guiding the business into its next era. Drawing on his agricultural background, he expanded the store’s focus from traditional farm supply to a broader mix that includes lawn, garden, hardware, natural stone hardscape products, organic farm and garden supplies, and expanded delivery services.
Over the years, Ithaca Agway Ace Hardware grew to two locations and became known for its knowledgeable team, dependable service, and deep ties to the Ithaca community. The addition of Ace Hardware strengthened its product offering while preserving its long-standing commitment to helping customers tackle projects of all sizes. Today, Ithaca Agway Ace Hardware remains a trusted local resource built on a blend of tradition, family ownership, and continuous innovation.
