84 Lumber Fined over Wages Dispute:
California's State Labor Commis-sioner has decreed that 84 Lumber and one of its framing sub-contractors, Russell/Thompson, must pay $1.3 million in wages and $200,000 in fines for failure to pay proper prevailing wages on a housing project at the University of California, Davis.
The investigation uncovered evidence that Russell/Thompson falsified payroll records, failed to pay overtime, and misclassified workers by identifying them by lower-paying positions rather than higher-rate, skilled positions they actually worked.
